Aeroseal Duct Sealing in Hamilton

Some rooms never match the thermostat, the basement’s cold while upstairs is warm, and you’ve tried closing vents to even things out. Uneven room temperatures often come down to the ducts. Air leaks out of them on the way, so less of it reaches the rooms that need it.

We test first, so you know how much your ducts leak. Then we fix anything too big for Aeroseal by hand, seal the rest from the inside, and measure again. Both numbers go on your Aeroseal Seal Certificate. If there’s equipment on your ductwork, like a UV light or a humidifier, we look after it so it works the same when we’re done. Hamilton is part of our service area, and we serve the whole GTA too.

A recent Hamilton job

We recently sealed the ducts in a home in Hamilton. Before sealing, the duct leakage measured 38.7%. After sealing, it measured 4.1%.

This home had a very unusual setup. The evaporator coil, the AC coil that sits on top of the furnace, was mounted very high, and the coil has to stay properly covered while we seal. So the best way to connect was from above it. We used an opening that was already there in the furnace and made a second one, so the sealant could reach the rest of the ductwork too. You can see our clear sealing tubes running into the mechanical room in the first photo. It’s not the kind of setup we see every day, but we’re always ready for challenges like this.

The home also had an HVAC air purifier, a UV unit mounted on the ductwork. That’s the second photo. Before sealing, we disconnected it and protected it from the sealant, so it would work exactly the same afterwards.

That’s how we go into every job. Our first priority is that everything in your home works exactly the same when we leave as it did before we came.

The leakage left at the end was about a tenth of where it started.

These are measured numbers, not estimates. We test before we start and again after sealing, and every Aeroseal job ends with a Seal Certificate showing both. We never share our customers’ addresses.

What happens to the equipment on your ductwork

A lot of homes have something attached to the ducts or the furnace: a UV light, a humidifier, an air cleaner, or zone dampers that send air to different parts of the house. Aeroseal sends a fine sealant mist through the duct system, so before we start, we check what’s attached.

Anything that needs it gets protected or disconnected for the sealing, so it works the same afterwards. On the Hamilton job above, that meant disconnecting the UV air purifier and protecting it from the sealant.

If you know what’s on your system, mention it when you call. If you’re not sure, that’s fine too. We’ll check when we get there.

Where we work in Hamilton

All of Hamilton, including the Mountain, Stoney Creek, Ancaster and Dundas. We serve the whole GTA too, including Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga.

How it works

  1. Test first. We measure your duct leakage before we start.
  2. Check what’s on your ductwork. UV lights, humidifiers, air cleaners and zone dampers get protected or disconnected as needed, so they work the same afterwards.
  3. Fix what’s too big for Aeroseal. Disconnected ducts and large gaps get repaired by hand. If a wall or ceiling has to be opened to reach a duct, patching the drywall afterwards is up to the homeowner.
  4. Block every register and seal from the inside. Each register gets covered so the sealant stays in the ducts, then the Aeroseal machine sends sealant mist through the system and closes the leaks from within.
  5. Test again and give you the Seal Certificate, with the before and after numbers in writing.

Most homes take about 4 hours for sealing, or about 6 hours with air balancing. See the full process →

What Aeroseal can’t fix

Aeroseal seals gaps up to about 5/8 inch. Bigger holes and disconnected ducts need a hand repair first. It’s not duct cleaning either: cleaning takes dust out, Aeroseal closes leaks. And it won’t make an undersized furnace or AC bigger. If the test shows sealing won’t help much, we’ll say so.

Hamilton questions

I have a UV light or air purifier in my ducts. Is that a problem?

No. Before sealing, we check what’s attached to your ductwork. On a recent job in Hamilton, the home had a UV air purifier mounted on the ducts. We disconnected it and protected it from the sealant, so it would work exactly the same afterwards.

Will my humidifier or other add-ons still work afterwards?

That’s our first priority on every job. Everything in your home should work exactly the same when we leave as it did before we came. Before we start, we check what’s on your ductwork, like a humidifier, UV light, air cleaner or zone dampers, and protect or disconnect whatever needs it.

My house has an unusual setup. Can you still seal it?

Tell us about it when you call. In the Hamilton home in the photos, the evaporator coil sat very high on the furnace, so we connected from above it and made a second opening so the sealant reached all of the ductwork. We’re always ready for challenges like that. Aeroseal still seals gaps up to about 5/8 inch, so anything bigger, like a disconnected duct, gets repaired by hand first.

Will you tell me before doing extra work?

Yes. If we find something that needs a hand repair, like a disconnected duct, we’ll tell you before we do anything extra. If a wall or ceiling has to be opened to reach a duct, patching the drywall afterwards is up to the homeowner.

How long does it take, and do I need to be home?

Most homes take about 4 hours for sealing, or about 6 with air balancing. Someone needs to let us in and be around at the start and the end.
